Russell Dougherty relies heavily on parental involvement to make our school as fantastic as it is. Joining a committee is a wonderful way to get involved! Most committees do not require a large time commitment and are a great way to meet other RD parents while getting a behind-the-scenes view of what goes into making RD events fun.

Committee: Bingo Night
Chair: Stephanie Cooley
Event Date: Thursday, April 4th, 2019
Description: Bingo/Auction Committee members oversee a variety of details in coordinating this fun spring event,
which also serves as one of Russell Dougherty’s fundraisers. The Bingo/Auction Committee is made up of various
assignments, from decorations to food, so there is something for everyone! This Committee works with the
Fundraising Committee, the Social Committee and the PTO Board.

Committee: Book Fair
Chair: Karen Potter
Event Dates: Tuesday, October 9 - Tuesday, October 16, 2018 and Monday, March 11 - Friday, March 15
Description: The Book Fair Committee is responsible for the coordination of the Russell Dougherty Book Fairs, in
association with the Media Center Director. The Book Fairs provide an opportunity for Russell Dougherty students
and families to purchase books at reasonable prices. Earnings from the Book Fairs are used to support the
purchase of books for the Media Center and the classrooms. Committee members may assist with the set-up and
operation of the Book Fairs, help students make book choices, and provide other support as needed by the Media
Center Director.

Committee: Box Tops
Chair: Stephanie Hill
Date: Monthly, 2nd Tuesday
Description: This Committee coordinates the promotion of the Box Tops for Education national fundraising
programs. We love to have contests! We have monthly student contests with prizes and each Committee
member may be invited to be responsible for one contest, as well as general preparation, collection and
redemption of Box Tops during the two annual submissions. Most of the work can be done from home with
occasional optional attendance at Eagle Beat at 8:40 on Friday mornings. The school receives money for the items
we submit, which is used for various school projects and equipment, from playground balls to musical instruments
to digital cameras and other classroom supplies.

Committee: WatchDOGS
Chair: Jeremy Dugas
Date: Throughout the year
Description: WatchDOGS helps coordinate dads and other male role models to volunteer several times a month at
the school. WatchDOGS will spend one or more half to full days at school per year. Please plan to attend the
informational meeting following Doughnuts with Dad in late September.

Committee: Fall Carnival
Chairs: Laren Easley and Becky Coons
Date: Friday, September 28, 2018
Description: The Fall Carnival Committee is responsible for coordinating Russell Dougherty’s favorite fall event!
We have games, prizes, activities, lots of volunteers, and food. Committee members may help with set-up,
operation, and/or clean-up as well with coordinating the Carnival activities. The Fall Carnival is a night of family
fun!

Committee: Turkey Trot
Chair: Still Available!!!
Date: Friday, November 2, 2018
Description: Do you have good organizational skills and enjoy raising money? This job is for you! This person works
closely with Ms. Imes and the PTO Board. Turkey Trot is a check writing campaign, our main fundraiser for the
year. Our fundraising goal for the year is $32,000. There are Turkey Trot t-shirts, poster and essay contests, and
corporate or large donation coordination.

Committee: Grounds
Chair: Lisa Hazzard &Yara Ford
Date: 2-3 Saturdays throughout the year
Description: The Grounds Committee oversees the planting and maintenance of Russell Dougherty’s flower beds,
soccer field, and lawn. This committee may also coordinate with the Dad’s Club Committee. No green thumb
necessary! No lawn mowing required!

Committee: Muffins with Mom/Donuts with Dad
Chair: Anna Gonse
Date: Donuts with Dad: Thursday, September 6 2018 and Muffins with Mom: Thursday, May 9, 2019
Description: The Muffins with Mom & Donuts with Dad Committee coordinates both events. These events take
place before the school day starts and are well attended and enjoyed by all. The Committee organizes these
events and is responsible for arranging donated coffee, milk, juice, muffins and doughnuts. If you are looking for a
Committee without a big time commitment, this is a good option!

Committee: Music Program

Date: 4th-5th Grades Music Program: Thursday, November 29, 2018
Description: This is for 4th and 5th grade parents only. The Music Program Committee will coordinate with the
music teacher, Ms. O’Connor on special projects in preparation for their grades’ music program. This committee
will also help arrange DVD orders of the programs.

Description: This is for 2nd and 3rd grade parents only. The Music Program Committee will coordinate with the

Committee: Popcorn

Description: The Popcorn Committee pops popcorn for Russell Dougherty students, faculty, and staff once per
month. The Committee may also provide popcorn at other Russell Dougherty activities, such as the Carnival. This
is an event that all of Russell Dougherty looks forward to each month!

Committee: Restaurant Night
Chair: Tosha Stapleman
Date: 3-4 Restaurant Nights per year
Description: The Restaurant Night Committee works with local restaurant owners and managers to coordinate a
night for Russell Dougherty families to eat at their restaurant on a monthly or one-time basis. A portion of the
sales from each Restaurant Night is donated to the Russell Dougherty PTO to fund various projects.

Committee: Social
Chair: Christin Dockum
Date: 3 events throughout the year
Description: The Social Committee plans events designed to give Russell Dougherty families time to get to know
each other at social events. These include the Back to School picnic, ice skating night, and the family dance. Think
of it as one party after another!

Committee: Spirit Wear
Chair: Sara Ray
Date: Several times throughout the year
Description: The Spirit Wear Committee handles the printing, orders, and delivery of Russell Dougherty t-shirts in
the fall semester. They will also help with the Turkey Trot Shirt and design the shirt for the 2018-2019 school
year. Show your spirit!

Committee: Teacher Appreciation Week

Description: This committee coordinates Teacher Appreciation Week. This includes theme days, teacher gifts, and
catered lunches/treats throughout the week.

Committee: Teacher Appreciation Desserts Sign Up

Date: Every other month
Description: This committee coordinates desserts provided at the Teacher Lunches that occur every other month.
Specific dates will be signed up for through a SignUp Genius email at a later date.

Description: This committee coordinates Sonic drinks for the teachers and staff, that will occur every other

Description: 4th Grade Parents ONLY. This committee will help organize the 5th grade graduation reception,
following the graduation. This includes refreshments and some decorations.
